WINNIPEG, March 14, 2022 — ESL Library, a fast-growing and innovative Canadian-based EdTech company, is excited to announce a rebrand that reflects how the company has grown over the past 20 years and cements its position for the future. As of March 14, 2022, ESL Library’s new name is Ellii (pronounced “el-lee”).

As an online teaching and learning platform, Ellii empowers English language teachers around the world with highly engaging content and interactive courseware. Ellii can be used to supplement curriculums for both in-person and online English classes, or be used as a stand-alone platform to replace any textbook. Today, Ellii is used in more than 10,000 schools around the world, including K–12 schools, private language schools, post-secondary institutions, and online tutoring platforms. 

“Over the past 20 years, ESL Library grew from a small supplemental resource site to one of the most commonly used language teaching platforms in the world,” said Ben Buckwold, CEO and founder of ESL Library. “We’ve outgrown the name we came up with back in 2002 when we were first conceptualizing the business. Ellii is a name that is warm, friendly, memorable, and reflective of our purpose.”  

The “ELL” in Ellii is an acronym that stands for “English Language Learning,” while the letters “ii” resemble two people in unison. Together, they represent the mission the company has always had—to connect the world through language.
