How to Post ESL Library Assignments on Google Classroom

Are you using Google Classroom to communicate with your students? We’ve launched the first phase of our Google Classroom integration. You can now post ESL Library assignments directly to Google Classroom so that your students can access all of your assignments in one place. Here’s a quick demo.

If you click in the bottom right corner of the video, you can click the YouTube button, you can watch it on the YouTube page. Be sure to click the "full screen" button (in the bottom right corner of the video) to see it even bigger on YouTube. The video quality is usually better if you watch directly on YouTube :)

If you open the video on YouTube, you can also change my speaking speed. Click on the Settings button (⚙️) in the bottom right corner of the video on YouTube. Change the Playback Speed from "Normal" to "0.75". This might make it easier to understand.

Hi Lucia,

During COVID-19 (through at least June 30, 2020...possibly longer), all Standard plan subscribers have been upgraded to the Plus plan. Because of this upgrade, you will be able to assign and post any digital task type to Google Classroom on the Standard plan.

After the temporary upgrade ends, on the Standard plan, you will still be able to assign any of our Read & Listen tasks to your students. This allows your students to have independent reading and listening practice outside of class. If you want to post additional task types, then you would want to upgrade to the Plus plan.

Just a comment about speed of delivery with regard to all training videos I've had to watch since my school closed. It isn't just the speaking that is too fast in delivery, it is the actions. Sometimes I can't see where a trainer clicked on a button. The assumption is I know, like you do, where the button is and what it does. I don't.

You may have noticed my response to previous comments, but just in case not, I thought I'd mention that it often much clearer to see clicks if you click on the YouTube button (bottom right-hand corner of video) and watch the video directly on the YouTube page. Once you're on YouTube, be sure to click the "full screen" button (in the bottom right corner of the video) to see it even larger on YouTube.

If you open the video on YouTube, you can also change the video speed (it will unfortunately also slow speaking speed). You can click on the Settings button (⚙️) in the bottom right corner of the video on YouTube. Change the Playback Speed from "Normal" to "0.75". This might make the clicks a little easier to follow.

But I'll also add some extra padding into the click time for future videos! Thank you for your feedback :)

Hello,

Thank you for the tutorial. I just have a question about assigning work from ESL Library to Google Classroom. Me being the teacher, do I have to create a class on ESL Library in order to assign the work? As of now, my current class is not registered on ESL Library.

Also, is it difficult for students to create a login for ESL Library? I just don't want to run the risk of confusing them and giving them more platforms to sign-in to.

Hi Nevein,

At the moment, the teacher does have to create a class on ESL Library first in order to assign the work. We just recently released this Google Classroom integration, so it's not fully completed yet. We are working to make it even smoother for our Google Classroom users.

However, making a class on ESL Library is pretty quick and straightforward. And if your students aren't connected yet, that's pretty simple as well. And as a purely personal recommendation, I suggest inviting
your students with the class code option, to avoid having to hunt down emails that might end up in a student's spam filter 😊 The student sign-up process is built to be very student-friendly...and after they're connected to your class, it's easy peasy!

Hi, do you need to have access to G-suite to do this? I use Google Classroom with my students but it isn't set up through my school as we currently use moodle.

As long as you use Google Classroom with your students (it doesn't have to be through a school), then you're good to go :)

In the demo video through this blog post, I actually had just set up a Google Classroom as an individual -- no school involved!

Hi,
I'm teaching Literacy and lower level students. They find it difficult to create another username and new password. Some of them can't write. Is there any way I can assign some pages from my teacher's account into the classwork page ?

Hi Siji,

We are working on a smoother way for teachers to create accounts on behalf of their students, but I can think of two options for you at the moment:

1) If your students already have Google accounts, they can use the Google Single Sign-On option by going to www.ellii.com/students and on the right side where it says "Or log in with:" your students can simply click the Google button without needing to create an account.

If you use this option, in the future, your students would just go directly to their Google Classroom (as usual) and click to do the tasks from there. As long as they are logged into their Google account, there is no issue.

2) If you have a smaller number of students, you could create the accounts for your students.

To do this, you (the teacher) would essentially do the process the student would have done. Go to www.ellii.com/students and click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner. You can add the students name, username, and password. (I would recommend using the same password for all of your students, which they can then reset later from within their account, if they would like to.)

If you use this option, in the future, your students would just go directly to their Google Classroom (as usual) and click to do the tasks from there. They will, however, need to log in with their ESL Library username and password if they are not already logged in using their Google account that is connected to your Google Classroom.

I also wanted to add that we recently designed a new, cleaner way to add and invite students to reduce the load of adding lower-level students; however, it's not released yet.

We also have more Google Classroom integration that will be coming.

We're still in our early stages with platform integrations, but appreciate our patience and support from our teachers as we keep moving forward. I hope one of these two solutions will work for your students, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to use the Contact Us link in the footer of our site, and we will get back to you ASAP.

I'm using google classroom with my student. My students are not connected To ESL Library, just to avoid confusing for kids and parents. Is there any solution that allow me to send assignment to students that are connected only for google classroom ? Thanks

Hi Karina,

We haven't fully completed our Google Classroom integration, so your students do need to have an ESL Library account at the moment (eventually, their enrollment in Google Classroom will be sufficient and they won't have to be signed up separately).

However , to reduce the burden to your students signing themselves up, as the teacher, you could go to www.ellii.com/students and click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner, create an account for each of your students using the same email address they use for their existing Google Classroom account (I would recommend using the same password for everyone -- they can change it later separately if desired). Once your students are registered in your class, they can just use the Google Single Sign-On button to connect their ESL Library account to their Google Classroom account.

That would mean that, moving forward, they would just click on their assignment from within Google Classroom and they would be taken directly to their student dashboard to complete any homework you assign them.
