What Do You Do?

At the community picnic, this newcomer and her family met a lot of community helpers, including some that work at her new school. In this lesson, students read and/or listen to a simple story about community helpers. They review vocabulary from the story and answer comprehension questions. Note that the vocabulary from this lesson is taught in the Word Bank lesson “Community Helpers.”

Our New Community

Community Helpers

In this lesson, students learn to reproduce the /o/ sound (as in "goat"). They practice writing and producing the sound through various tasks and compare /o/ and /ɑ/ (e.g., goat/got). Includes a pronunciation diagram and audio.
