Students learn language and useful expressions for following instructions. They learn how to use prepositions of place and units of measurement with instructions. This lesson also introduces how to ask for clarification.

In this lesson, students practice forming the simple future tense (using _be going to_) with subject pronouns and nouns. They also learn vocabulary for common actions.

The aim for this lesson is to introduce students to the phrase "be going to.”

Different Weather & Seasons

Students review language and useful expressions for talking about the weather. They practice talking about the weather using adjectives, verbs, nouns, and adverbs. Includes assessment tasks.

Talking about the Weather

Games & Hobbies

In this lesson, students can read and/or listen to a simple story about spending free time doing different hobbies. They review vocabulary from the story and answer comprehension questions. Note that the vocabulary from this lesson is taught in the “Hobbies” Word Bank lesson.

Free Time

In this lesson, students learn to reproduce the diphthong /ɑy/ (as in “hi”). They practice writing and producing the sound through various tasks and compare /ɑy/ (long I) and /ɪ/ (short I). Includes a pronunciation diagram and audio.

Please note that we use the International Phonetic Alphabet to represent sounds on our site. This lesson is based on the typical North American pronunciation of /ɑy/ (also known as "long I"). Pronunciation of this sound may differ by country and/or region.

High-beginner students build confidence talking about future plans and everyday topics in this course focused on free time, the weather, and schedules. Learners practice using "be going to" to talk about plans and using conjunctions to connect ideas in simple sentences. Students read and answer questions about some simple stories.
