The Ellii Placement Quiz (EPQ) is designed to help you determine the Ellii level of a new English language student. You can also consult our Equivalency Scale to determine which materials are best suited for your students based on your level preference.

We recommend giving students a 30-minute time limit to complete this quiz in order to get the most accurate level placement. After 30 minutes, if your digital test-takers have not completed the quiz, instruct them to go back, quickly select an answer for each item, and hit submit.

The EPQ has 30 multiple-choice questions and is divided into 3 sections:
Part 1: Listening (3 recordings, 9 questions)
Part 2: Grammar (12 questions)
Part 3: Reading (3 readings, 9 questions)

Suggested placement levels (based on the number of correctly answered questions):
0 (0%) = Pre-Beginner
1–5 (3–17%) = Beginner
6–12 (20–40%) = Low Intermediate
13–19 (43–63%) = Intermediate
20–25 (67–83%) = Intermediate – High Intermediate
26–29 (87–97%) = High Intermediate – Advanced
30 (100%) = Advanced
